MASSOTH ANALOG PULSED SMOKER SETUP ON MASSOTH XLS DC/DCC SOUND DECODER TESTED IN DC ANALOG POWER
DC Analog Test Stand using an LGB 20882 Uintah Motor Block with factory-installed Hall Sensor. Massoth DC Analog Pulsed Smoker's Dip Switch is set to 2 Chuffs/Wheel Revolution. The Massoth XLS Sound Decoder is set to CV195=1 equals 1 Chuff/Wheel Revolution. In this configuration, the Hall Sensor's cable plug is connected to the smoker's 3-pin input socket, and the smoker's 3-pin pulse output cable plug is connected to the XLS Clock #1 Socket; CV196=0 is also set for Hall Sensor.

In this demonstration, there is no Hall Sensor installed in the test stand locomotive's motor block; the pulsed smoker receives the pulse inputs from the XLS decoder's electronically produced chuff sounds and pulses. Further adjustments can be made to both the smoker's decoder CVs and the XLS decoder's CVs to perfect the smoker's pulse exhaust with the wheels revolutions. But using a Hall Senor installed in a locomotive's motor block when using the ML-Train DCC smoker would require less decoder CV settings.
MASSOTH DCC PULSED SMOKER - ESU 5XL DCC SOUND DECODER SETUP AND TEST
Massoth Pulsed Smoker installed on a Massoth XLS DCC Sound Decoder on a test stand locomotive without a Hall Sensor. The XLS decoder is accurately producing the chuff sounds electronically and providing the pulses to the smoker based upon the ESU decoder's chuff sounds.......the smoke exhaust is in perfect alignment with the wheels revolutions.

HOW TO MAKE A EXHAUST CONNECTOR FOR A PULSED SMOKER
First, buy a 1/2 inch plastic connector from your hardware store and cut one of the 5/8th inch tips off. Cut a 1/2 inch length piece from 1/2 inch plastic tubing and cut a 7/16 inch length from piece from 7/16 inch plastic tubing and then insert half way into the 1/2 inch piece. Then insert it into the plastic connector. Attach another piece of 7/16 inch plastic tubing into the other end as shown in Photo #3, then cut to the required length to fit inside your locomotive's smoke stack. I use 1/8th inch plastic sheeting for the base. Cut the width and length to fit your locomotive's smoke box so that it will fit tightly under the smoker and will push up and hold tightly the smoker and the connector. You'll need to cut a recess into the rear of the base so it provides an unobstructed opening for the smoker's fan. The sample cut piece in Photos # 3 and 4 will fit an LGB Forney locomotive's smoke box. When the smoker and connector are fitted very tightly inside the smoke box and smoke stack, no fluid should be able to leak out around the plastic tubing inside the smoke stack or the connector.
